Eclipse MicroPen® Elite and Automated Micro-Needling

The Eclipse MicroPen® Elite is an advanced medical-grade automated device. Composed of medical grade stainless steel, the Eclipse MicroPen® Elite is the first cordless fractional automated micro-needling device for treating various dermatologic indications – face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. So effective is the device that it has won the prestigious Aesthetic Industry Award for best micro-needling device.

Micro-needling is a safer alternative to using common skin resurfacing tools, such as lasers and dermal rollers. Micro-needling treatments are thus affordable, effective, requires minimal down time, and provides natural-looking results.

How the MicroPen® Process Works:

Topical gel is applied to clean skin. In most cases your practitioner will use sterile saline. This is a lubricating product that helps the MicroPen glide across your skin creating superficial micro-injuries designed to ultimately improve your skin condition upon re-epithelialization.

Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.

Typically, the skin has a nice glow immediately following an Eclipse MicroPen micro-needling session. Results can be observed in as early as 30 days.

What are the benefits?

There is a plethora of benefits to micro-needling on aging skin: reduction of fine lines, diminishing of wrinkles, appearance of younger-looking skin. Additionally, micro-needling is highly effective for other dermatological issues such as hyper-pigmentation, dark spots, acne scars, and stretch marks. Your skin will have a fresh appearance and glow!

What areas of the body can be treated?

Virtually everywhere! Face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How is the procedure done?

A sterile applicator tip containing 12 points is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen®. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of solution, such as medical-grade saline solution, to your skin and select the appropriate pen setting based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.

What does it feel like?

The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen® is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating Eclipse MicroPen® tip reduces discomfort while the post-treatment hydrating gel also makes the procedure more tolerable.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.

What is the downtime?

Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the Eclipse MicroPen® setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours. Utilizing the Eclipse Dermal Rejuvenation System, or other quality skincare products, provided by your skincare provider, can help to speed up the post-care process.

When will I see results?

Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

Some patients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, your skin care provider may recommend 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.

What is Micro-needling
with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma), also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, or the Vampire Facial, is ideal for the treatment of acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, lax skin, sun damaged, large pores, and uneven skin texture. It can be performed either on the face or body, and is suitable for all skin types and colors.

What is PRP(Platelet Rich Plasma)?

Platelet Rich Plasma is produced from an individual’s own blood. After a blood sample is obtained from a patient, the blood is put into a centrifuge, which is a tool that separates the PRP from the blood. The blood is spun for approximately 15 minutes.

PRP contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors and other cytokines that promote the regeneration process of soft tissues. The PRP is applied directly to the channels that were created from the micro-needling to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of collagen.

How Microneedling with PRP Works?

This therapy is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment with quick recovery time, and is designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.
The treatment actually involves the use of two procedures, micro-needling and PRP (platelet rich plasma) done consecutively.

Why is it sometimes called a vampire facial?

Because we use your own blood to derive the PRP (platelet rich plasma) that is used to stimulate the healing process in the skin.

How long before I see results?

You will continue to see improvements in your skin as your body’s natural repair process creates more collagen. Most patients see noticeable results after 4-8 weeks.

How often can I have this done?

You need to wait 4 weeks between each session. We recommend a treatment course of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

What works best for you?

As a treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, both micro-needling and PRP work well. However, their true power is unleashed when used together, as benefits are amplified and healing time is reduced.
Visible improvements typically appear about 2-4 weeks from the time of treatment. However, optimal results are noticeable after 6 months with additional follow up treatments. Therefore, a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is ideal for most patient. Although, some conditions such as; deep wrinkles, stretch marks, and extreme acne scaring could take up to 6-8 treatments for best results.

What are the advantages of PRP?

When used alongside the Micropen and eMatrix Laser treatment, PRP can afford you an even more superior difference in skin appearance than when used alone:

-Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles

-Very noticeable tightened and evenly toned skin

-Restoration of collagen and volume loss when injected for volume replenishment

-Diminished Crow’s feet and dark under eye circles when injected in this area

-Reduced appearance of acne and other scarring

-Smoother skin due to reduced stretch marks

While it creates a longer-lasting effect in the skin, Cosmetic PRP takes time to work and the results for volume restoration and deep folds are subtle. For our patients looking for an immediate effect, we may combine Cosmetic PRP with FDA approved hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm and Belotero Balance for quick volume correction and reduction of deep wrinkles and folds. Cosmetic dermal fillers provide a matrix for building new collagen and can be safely used to accelerate and sustain the effects of Cosmetic PRP.

Please consult your physician about the whether the treatment would be beneficial to your well-being. Specifically, individuals with platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenias, hypofibrinogenaemia, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, other disorders affecting blood and circulatory system (e.g. hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic Infections), chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders, MUST consult their physicians before coming in for a consultation.

Recovery

After the treatment, your skin will be slightly pink and feel slightly sunburned. For most people, your skin will completely recover in 24-72 hours. Your body’s collagen production usually takes about 4-8 weeks, so you will continue to see improvements over this time.
